Qualifications for the Players Championship

The NIMAGA PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP is our most prestigious event.

This tournament is open to first year members, however, they must have played in 4 previous tournaments (a two day tournament constitutes one tournament for the purposes of this rule), and have recorded 10 scores after becoming a member prior to the handicap revision before September 1st. Because of these changes, anyone who feels they are qualified (we will work towards making qualified lists available on the web) but is not listed will need to contact a Board member prior to the entry deadline. The Board will review each case and their decision on eligibility will be final. All qualified players must meet the minimum score rule of 10 scores turned into the handicap service prior to August 15, and have played two regular events in the current year.

Players qualify by meeting the following conditions:

  • In the Regular events (April, May, June, July Club Championship (2 day = 1 event), and August regular tournament):
In the Palmer division, the low gross winner and second (and ties) low gross, and the first net four players and ties with the fourth player qualify.
In the Player and Trevino divisions, the low gross winner, and the first net four players and ties with the fourth player qualify.
  • In the Midweek/Special Events (April, May, June, July, and August), the Seniors and Patriot's Day Tournament, the low gross and first net four players
and ties with the fourth qualify.
  • 2017 Two Man Better Ball low gross and the first two net teams and ties for second qualify.
  • All members of the NIMAGA Cup winning team qualify.
  • The finalists in the Hogan and Jones divisions of the Match Play Tournament.
  • Second place gross and all net second through fifth place finishers in the prior year's PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP qualify.
  • NIMAGA PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP - Champion (low gross and low net) receive a 3-year exemption for this event.

First Year Members: Must have played in 4 NIMAGA tournaments (July 2 day = 1 event) and turned in 10 scores during the year (exclusive of scores turned in with application) to the handicap service prior to September 1st.

Returning Members: Must meet above qualifications, played in two events (July 2 day = 1 event) during the calendar year and turned in 10 scores to the handicap service for the calendar year prior to September 1st.

The NIMAGA PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP is a 36-hole event. There is a cut at 50% of the field along with those within 8 strokes of the gross leader.

Ties for the trophy winners will be resolved by a play-off if a play-off is feasible in the judgment of the Tournament Director. The play-off will consist of three holes, with the handicap equal to one sixth of the player's current handicap. If a play-off is not feasible, ties will be broken by matching score cards of the last three holes of the round and applying the "play-off" handicap referred to above.
