Qualifications for the Players Championship

The NIMAGA PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP (or NPC) is our most prestigious event.

This tournament is open to first year members, however, they must have played in 4 previous tournaments
(a two-day tournament constitutes one tournament for the purposes of this rule).

Anyone who feels they are qualified but is not listed will need to contact a Board member prior to the entry deadline.
The Board will review each case and their decision on eligibility will be final.

Players qualify by meeting any of the following conditions:

  • When there is a three division tournament (Palmer, Player, Trevino):
    • In the Palmer division, the low gross winner and second (and ties) low gross, and the first net four players and ties with the fourth player qualify.
    • In the Player and Trevino divisions, the low gross winner, and the first net four players and ties with the fourth player qualify.
  • When there is a two division tournament (Low and High) the low gross and first net four players and ties with the fourth qualify.
  • When there is a one division tournament, the low gross winner and second (and ties) low gross, and the first net four players and ties with the fourth player qualify.
  • Any Two-Man event (e.g. Better-Ball or Scramble), low gross and the first two net teams and ties for second qualify.
In some seasons this tournament is held after the NPC, so the prior year’s winners qualify.
  • All members of the NIMAGA Cup winning team qualify.
  • The finalists in the Hogan and Jones divisions of the Match Play Tournament qualify.
  • Second place gross and all net second through fifth place finishers in the prior year's NPC qualify.
  • NPC Champions (low gross and low net) receive a 3-year exemption for this event.

Members must meet the minimum number of scores reported to the Handicap Service (refer to Prize and Prize Eligibility Requirement):

  • First Year Members: Must have played in 4 NIMAGA tournaments; (a two-day tournament = 1 event).
  • Returning Members: Must meet above qualifications, played in two events; (a two-day tournament = 1 event).

The Par 3 tournament winners do not qualify for the NPC.

The NPC is a 36-hole event. There is a cut at 50% of the field along with those within 8 strokes of the gross leader.

Ties for the trophy winners will be resolved by a play-off if a play-off is feasible in the judgment of the Tournament Director. The play-off will consist of three holes, with the handicap equal to one sixth of the player's current handicap. If a play-off is not feasible, ties will be broken by matching score cards of the last three holes of the round and applying the "play-off" handicap referred to above.
